Palm Sunday

” Jesus is coming!” A  girl told a merchant” he’s coming to rescue the Jews. He’ll march into the streets of Jerusalem with an army skilled to take on the Romans. They say he’s coming soon,”

” None sense,” the merchant responded, handing grapes to his customers” Who is this Jesus you’re referring too?”

The child slapped her knee and edged closer to the merchant” He’s a Nazarene. A son of a carpenter who wields gifts, gifts from the Lord. He performs miracles.  You know, supernatural things no ordinary man could do,” the girls eyes lit up with joy like a warm fire.

The merchant crossed his arms” I know what miracles are child. How does someone as young as you know so much about this miracle worker? Are you trying to trick me into giving you something?”

” No sir. I’m spreading the word. My cousin told my brother and I overheard their conversation while hiding under a bush,”

” You know that is called eavesdropping. It’s a sin to eavesdrop, child,”

” I don’t think so,” the girl kicked a pebble off her sandle” Aren’t you excited to meet him?”

The merchant sighed” I’ve lived long enough child to not believe in such foolishness,”

” It’s not foolishness. Jesus is real and he’s coming soon,” the child waved her hands in the air, yet alerted a Roman guard who approached them.

‘ Is this child bothering you? Go home, child,” the roman guard roared, pushing the child away with his shield, but the merchant stood in front of the Roman guard and bowed.

” Stop. The child isn’t bothering me. Come and I will take you home,” the merchant lead the girl away from the guard. They wandered out of the market toward a green field” see what trouble your story has brought us? Don’t speak about this Jesus person ever again.”

As the merchant wandered back to his stand, the girl walked home. She felt ashamed to put the merchant into danger, yet she couldn’t stop thinking about Jesus. The merchant must be wrong. Throughout her village word spread about Jesus and His miracles. Surely he would arrive and bring salvation to her people. The sun set over the hilltop as the girl returned to her home. Her mother stood in the center of the room dishing out soup to all of her siblings.

” Haley, where have you been?” her mother asked with her hands at her waist” why have you come home so late?”

” I was telling strangers about Jesus in the market. A roman soldier told me to leave, but a merchant told the soldier I wasn’t bothering him, so he lead me away from the market and I returned home,”

The girl’s mother dropped her  bowl to the floor. The soup splattered across the room” Goodness, child. You could had gotten yourself killed. Who told you about Jesus?”

Haley’s mouth was blocked by Mateo’s hand” Haley must have heard someone say something about Jesus the other day. You know how Haley is mom. She tells people stories to brighten their day.” he grinned and lead the  girl into her bedroom” You can’t be telling others about Jesus,”

” Why not? You talked about him with Aaria,”

” We’re older than you. It’s dangerous to speak about Jesus, especially around the  Romans.” Mateo instructed, but Haley’s admiration of Jesus couldn’t be stopped. For the next few days, Haley spoke about Jesus wherever she went, but she did make sure no Roman soldiers were present. As days passed by the child grew anxious to meet Jesus, but he still didn’t arrive in the city of Jerusalem. Doubt overcame her thoughts. Where was Jesus?

As Haley fetched water with her sisters, down by the creak, a voice cried out” Jesus is here!” the girl dropped her pail and rushed toward the city. As she approached the city gate a crowd stood in the path and blocked her view.

” That is Jesus!” A  stranger gasped” he’s over there, riding in on a donkey.” but Haley still couldn’t see him. She pushed and shoved her way through the massive crowd, but  Jesus was gone. The crowd followed a  trail of palm branches, revealing where he had gone.

Haley said to herself” I won’t be able to fit into the crowd within the city,” As the child lost hope a clever plan entered her mind. She ran around the crowd and found another entrance to the city. Inside she climbed a tree and watched for Jesus.  She held on tight, but the branch gave away. She fell from the tree into the middle of the street.  Haley spit up dirt and sand and the crowd grew silent. Her jaw dropped as a man in a long, white robe walked toward her.

He greeted her with a smile” Hello my child. The Lord admire’s your perseverance.”

Haley stared at his followers” Where is the army with the soldiers fit to stop the Romans?”

Jesus placed a hand on her shoulder” The Lord can do good things without causing a fire,” Jesus helped the girl to stand. Then Him and His followers marched into the center of the city. A tear rolled down the girls face. She stood and ran back to the merchant.

” Jesus is real. I just met him!” Haley boasted.

” Really?” the merchant grinned” Take me to him. I must learn if eavesdropping is a sin or not.”

2017- A Reflection Post

Today is New Years Eve. I can hardly believe it. It really feels like 2017 has gone with the wind. Maybe I’m having too good of a time?  Ok,  time to reflect.

2017 Has been an excellent year. I feel as if I figured many new things about myself. I learned a ton about literature and writing which has been a blast. It’s amazing how many wonderful people God will send into your life when you need them the most. As I look back on previous years I sort of laugh, because those answers I was seeking were right in front of me the whole time. I’m twenty three years old now, so maybe the theory that men reach their full potential around twenty five is true? Well for me at least 🙂

“I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” Philippine’s 4:13

This is my absolute favorite verse from the Bible. It’s so inspiring and uplifting. I can do all things through Christ. He gives me strength. I feel His strength surge through me. I don’t feel the weight of the world on my shoulders, because He’s holding it firmly in the palm of His hands. God reminded me this year, during those tough moments, to never give up.  God gave me this incredible talent to write. I will use my gift to brighten the world.

I feel as if 2018 will be a special year. Every dark moment I’ve gone through is about to change. It’s a little scary, yet I can do all things  through Christ who gives me strength and I also have an incredible group of people backing me up. Thank you to everyone who has supported my site here on WordPress. I appreciate your likes and comments. The world really is much smaller than we assume.

Happy New Year!

Failure is a Positive

Failure is inevitable. It follows us like Michael Myers. We can’t escape failure no matter how hard we try. Most think of failure as a negative part of life. On the other hand I think failure can actually  be positive.

Society is terrified by failure. Whether it’s going to school to take a huge test which decides the fate of the semester or going in for an important job interview fear creeps up on us like a gigantic shadow. Without a doubt humans are afraid of failure. It drives us bonkers. We fear not accomplishing our goals or whatever it is we’re trying to complete.  It’s pretty comical really.

The classic line of Heath Ledger’s Joker from the Dark Knight series was” Why so serious?” Now the Joker is a dark villainous character,  but the Clown Prince of Crime had a good point. Failure is impossible to escape. Someday you will fail and it will hurt. Failure hurts so bad. We try so hard to find success. When we fail it feels like the world is breaking apart. Failure is disappointing and humans are pretty darn good at it, but it shouldn’t bother us.

From the beginning of time man had failed at something. Instead of looking at our failures as a weakness we should embrace it and learn from our mistakes. We can read countless articles online about how to overcome failure, but I think the best way to overcome failure is by not being afraid. When you fail take a deep breathe. Learn from those annoying mistakes and keep walking down the yellow brick road, because success is only a few steps away. As a Christian I think being afraid to fail disowners God. God created us to shine and we can’t shine if we’re afraid to fail.  I feel terrible when I send an editor my story pitch and get the bad news about how it’s not ready to be published or to continue too craft the idea until it is nearly perfect.  It stinks to fail, yet it shows you how passionate you’re and you’ll keep swinging until you hit a home run. Failure is a tough pill to shallow, but with the right attitude and courage to carry on failure will be  what lead you to greatness. As the old saying goes never judge a book by its cover.

Lets go Down to the River to Pray

“For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour my Spirit upon your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants.” Isaiah44:3

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good ol’ way
And who shall wear the starry crown?
Good Lord show me the way!

O sisters let’s go down
Let’s go down, come on down
O sisters let’s go down
Down in the river to pray

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good ol’ way
And who shall wear the robe & crown?
Good Lord show me the way

O brothers let’s go down
Let’s go down, come on down
Come on brothers, let’s go down
Down in the river to pray

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good ol’ way
And who shall wear the starry crown?
Good Lord show me the way

O fathers let’s go down
Let’s go down, come on down
O fathers let’s go down
Down in the river to pray

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good ol’ way
And who shall wear the robe and crown?
Good Lord show me the way

O mothers let’s go down
Come on down, don’t you wanna go down?
Come on mothers, let’s go down
Down in the river to pray

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good ol’ way
And who shall wear the starry crown?
Good Lord show me the way

O sinners, let’s go down
Let’s go down, come on down
O sinners, let’s go down
Down in the river to pray

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good ol’ way
And who shall wear the robe and crown?
Good Lord show me the way.

Judgement

Lets face it humans are the most hypocritical and blameful beings on earth. We like to judge others. Whenever a celebrity or a local town fool does something incredible stupid we jump into social media mode and attack, attack, attack! We enjoy throwing stones at  houses made out of glass.  Worst of all is how we cannot blame ourselves.  Yes, you do make mistakes just like everyone else you’re blaming you sinful beast!  For some reason, man  finds a thrill from judgment. We look at judgement like an end to all of our problems which is really a lame excuse. Man really likes to blame God for all the faults and problems within the world we call home aka planet earth. Ironic isn’t it?

It can be difficult to explain to somehow how God is not at fault. He is the creator of our universe, so why is he left out of blame? Why can God not wave his hand around removing all of our problems at once? If God did that I would be so better off right? If you look at it that way you’re failing to see the truth behind sin. Is God at fault if we make the mistake?

Right now I’m taking a US history course. At the moment we’re studying the exploration and colonization period.  Recently I watched a video on YouTube. From a short scene in the program mentioned how important tobacco and cotton trade was in the late 18 hundreds. The work was completed by slavery. Today slavery as well as smoking tobacco is seen as wrong. Who is at fault for slavery and smoking tobacco? Man or God? Did God create tobacco to be inhaled which can do some heavy damage on our lungs? God tells us to treat our bodies like a temple. Tobacco was taken by man to be used for selfish pleasure. Likewise is slavery.  Slavery is like making a man into his own god, bullying a group of people. It’s relatable to how a child does something wrong, yet denies it and blames the parent.

I understand why this topic confuses people, yet I  firmly believe that the faults of our world cannot be blamed on God, because God has nothing to do with them. God is of love, not hatred. He does not seek wrath upon His people. Terrible things do happen and most of them could easily be blamed on man not God. Instead of blaming others we should share the grace of God with all people. Lets build each other up.

We know that all things work together for good for those who love God. -Romans 8:28

Lecrae-Unashamed

First off Merry Christmas!

The other day at our local Bible book shop( which is sadly going out of business) I picked up a copy of Lecrae’s novel titled Unashamed. Lecrae is an insanely talented rap artist. His novel was basically a review of his life’s achievements,  biggest fails, and also revealing God’s presence in his life. Lecrae is a true warrior for Christ. He wears his faith like a badge of honor.

I enjoyed this novel very much. It was an inspiring book to read as we celebrate the gift of Christmas. I admire Lecrae’s message. He doesn’t identify himself a Christian artist, because there is no art without God. He mention difficult moments from his childhood like living without a true father figure which lead to his love for hip hop.

Lecrae grew up feeling like an outsider which is exactly how I see the image of Christianity.  God create this world, yet He’s not of this world. There is good and there is evil. We get to choose what we represent. Being a Christian doesn’t make us perfect nor should we think it does. It just means we’re different which is ok. If we want none believers to think we’re not boastful hypocrites we should reflect the  “true” image of God.  Our job is to represent Christ around believers of other faiths, atheist, and fellow Christ followers. I’m saved. yet I’m still broken. We have our ups and downs, yet God is always going to have our backs. That is living with a Biblical worldview.  Lecrae has revolutionized the boundaries between his faith and his craft. He walks the walk within a society that does not want nothing to do with God. A true statement to WWJD? Keep up the good fight brother.

The worst Election Year Ever( But Do not Be Afraid)

So if you clicked on this blog I bet you’re expecting a long, ranty post about how terrible this election year is. If so, you’d be partially correct. Originally I was planning on a post like that, but I got a better idea in mind. I will dive into some of my feelings about this election year, yet I wanted to use this post to point out a common mistake mortals make every single year, decade, century etc. Lets begin.

The election of 2016 has been down right dreadful. So our forty fifth president of the United States of America is expected to be either Hilary Clinton or Donald Trump.  Who would have thought we’d ever be saying that? It feels as if we’re trapped within the worst Twilight Zone episode ever. The devil has been working hard this election cycle. This entire election year has been one big mess. Ironically both the democratic and Republican parties(  basically a two headed  beast) have  ignored a majority of their voters, pushing the narrative that their guy does not stink as much as the other, so vote for them. They have gone against the moral code. Sticking to your conscience in  today’s world is wrong, yet bullying or striking fear into a group of people to support someone   they do not agree with is seen as right. Time and time again I’ve told many that I will not be supporting either nominee,  because what they believe I do not believe in.  It has brought a lot of hatred my way, voicing my opinion.

Overall I feel stronger as a person and wish no ill will toward anyone even those who have brought me pain. Like Jesus said” Forgive them Lord for they do not know what they do,”(so true)  Now I will get to the point of this post. The number one problem mortals have is being afraid. Fear can bring much grief and make men do terrible things. In the Bible there were many times people were afraid. Lets take a look at the book of Exodus for example.

For many years the Jewish people were held captive by the Egyptian’s. The Jewish people were under  slavery. For many years they prayed and prayed to God to bring them out of the land of Egypt.  Out of fear of being overthrown, the Egyptian pharaoh ordered that every  new born Hebrew son be tossed into the Nile.  As we know from the book of Exodus there was one Hebrew son who survived named Moses. Moses was actually found by the Pharaoh’s daughter Bithiah, floating down the Nile River in a basket. Moses was then adopted by the royal family and raised as an Egyptian. Not bad, not bad at all.

Fast forward a bit- God commands Moses to lead His people out of Egypt. God plagues the land, yet the pharaoh would not budge. To put the nail in the coffin God sent the Angel of Death to kill the first born males of the Egyptian’s.  Guess who had son? PHARAOH.

Now out of fear of God, pharaoh gives Moses and the Hebrews an ok on leaving,  but it did not end here.  A couple days later pharaoh got more upset at God and rounded up his best soldiers to get the Hebrew’s back. The stupidity of pharaoh lead to his death and  so many others, because of his arrogant pride.

After they escape, God begins to lead them into the Promise Land. The people who lived in fear of the Egyptian’s and basically begged God to free them are now free, so they should be happy right? Well not really. While wandering around in the wilderness, the people again grew fearful. They actually grew angry with Moses for freeing them. To make matters worse they built a golden calf and danced around it giving this idol praise only God deserves.  I think you’ve probably got the point of this now.

There will always be many things man will fear. Whatever we fear should not stop us from, trusting in the Lord. When we stop trusting in God we put ourselves into a bigger hole. God is bigger than all of our problems. It might not feel like it sometimes, but He is. Take a look at these verses if life is getting U down. Remember that God’s go to catch phrase is” Do Not Be Afraid,” for God is good all time and all time God is good!

Phillipians4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

First Peter 5-7

Casting all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for U!

Matthew 6: 25-34

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these…

John 14:27

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

Romans 8:31

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Inspiring Verse for the Weekend

Let us be Christ like this weekend. Lets show others that the joy of the Lord is within us when we go out into the world. Lets bring peace and be a positive message.  If you see a police officer, military veteran,  fireman, doctor, or nurse thank them for all the good work they do. Be tolerant and kind to friends and family. Be fruitful and kind to those around us.  Help where help is needed.  We need to show Christ to the world. Let us build each other up instead of tearing each other down. God is good all time and all time God is good! Stay motivated.
