Law and Order

In the grand metropolis of  Olympia  the citizens lived a life based on law and order. Laws were followed and accounted for. No rules were ever to be broken. Fear of the world, before the great war, kept them fulfilled within their utopia.

The citizens completed their objective no matter what task. If they failed a task, no matter how important, it could count as breaking a rule. The citizens feared failing their city’s laws. They served their city even if ill. The members of society who lost their lives while they worked were remembered as brave, heroic citizens who always followed the rules.

This lawful society  seemed perfect until a common youth named Sage broke a rule. His reckless action changed everything.  Sage’s mistake dawned on the society. His mistake couldn’t be made again. Sage must be punished to keep order. Sage’s family loved him, yet they also felt he must reap the consequences of his action. The citizens held a trial, although Sage had little to no chance of changing their opinion. He’d be doomed to  strict punishment. Sage made a mistake and must be held accountable. The societies definite rules were more important than his life or so they thought.

As the trial commenced the jury cast  their votes. They agreed, without any doubt, Sage had broken a rule and his action must be dealt with, but what would his consequences be? Sage had broken a law once thought as minor, yet if he receive less punishment others within the society could break similar laws without harm. A rebellion could begin. Punishment would be necessary. The society had to punish Sage severely.

The judge thought about the jury’s decision. The clever gentleman rested his left hand under his chin and stared into Sage’s emerald eyes.” The jury had made a decision,” the judge told those at the trial and others who listened from home or at the city market” the jury had decided Sage deserves death!” Those attending the trial gasped, yet the judge raised his right hand” but I’ve come to my own decision if you may allow me to speak,” and they gave him permission” Olympia,  our grand city, was created in unity. Years ago we were divided by hatred and bigotry. Minor issues plagued humanity for centuries. Wars were held to end disagreement and hold one’s truth above others. A countless number of lives were lost, because laws were rarely followed. Today we live as one. We live by our law and order, to escape our darkness, yet has our light been weakened by our own greed which blinds us?” the judge pointed at Sage” Today we’ve sentence Sage, a youth no older than twelve to death, because of a simple mistake. Yes, this mistake was wrong, yet do we dare to cast a stone at his young face when we hide behind our own lies and failures, because society allowed us to? If Sage can be sacrificed why not any of you be sentenced to the same fate? Are we correct to judge him, yet act as if our own sin wasn’t wrong? Trust me when I say we’ve all been prone to sin whether we see it as lawful or not. The decision has been made, but do you, my humble court, still believe in your decision? Let us take a moment to reflect and decide Sage’s fate with a clear heart and mind.”

Silence fell over the dismal room. Each member of the jury whispered to the other what they thought. The jury confirmed and spoke” Your honor, we’ve heard your plea and decided to reverse our decision.”

The judge approved the juries request and addressed the  anxious courtroom” Very well. We have decided Sage was in the wrong, yet his life will be spared. Today we’ve understood our way of life is pleasant, yet corruption is inches from ripping our dignity away. I’m hopeful Sage understands what this means not only for his life, yet for our society.” the judge slammed his mallet down  and ended the trial.

Sage sat by his mother in awe. His life had been spared. He wished for his life to return to normal, yet he knew the judge’s warning would haunt him forever.

The end

Hey guys. What did you think about this short story? Did the judge make the right decision? Should Sage had been killed, because of one mistake? Is Sage safe or now in even more trouble? I’d love to know what you guys think. I’m incredible thankful to be able to write stories like this. If you see anything wrong within my writing habits don’t be afraid to let me know. Expect more short stories in the weeks to come. Write on!

Share a link to your best post( I’ll share this one)

https://wordpress.com/posts/mattdwells1994.wordpress.com

  1. Why did you start your blog?

I wanted to start a blog, so I asked my Twitter followers which websites were best for writing and was told about WordPress.

  2. What’s the one thing in your life that you wish you could change?

Nothing! I don’t want to change anything. I’ve seen enough movies to see what happens when you go changing destiny.

  3. What are your pet-peeves? Internet trolls. I can’t stand em.

  4. If you were given the chance to get that one thing you had always wanted and the chance to travel the world, which would you choose and why?

There isn’t really anything I want that badly, but I’d love to travel the world, so if I got the chance to travel to Europe I’d like that very much. I live in a very rural, small town. It be awesome to go someplace new with tons of history and stories to be told.

  5. What is the one goal you didn’t mind not achieving?

When I was little  I wanted to play in the NFL or NBA, but I’m a rather short person, so that goal was quickly destroyed. The good part is I can write about my favorite sports and not have to deal with any major injuries athlete’s get. I already have a rare disorder to deal with.

Alright here are my five questions to those nominated.

1. What is your favorite hobby?

2.If you could travel to anywhere in the world where would you go?

3.Do you have any favorite childhood memories?

4. What is your favorite book all time?

5. Do you believe in luck or destiny?

Awesome Blogger Award

Hey guys.  My good friend Nenad over at  Dronstadblog recently got chosen for the Awesome Blogger Award. Congrats to him! After he completed his post he chose my blog and several others for the award. Thanks a lot man. Without further ado here is my ABA post!

Awesome Dronstad

1. What is the latest book you’re reading and are you enjoying it?

At the moment I’m actually reading five books LOL. The book I’m paying most attention to is Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco( James Patterson also played a part in this bad boy). It is the sequel to Stalking Jack the Ripper. It has a killer female protagonist. The first novel took place in the UK while this one takes place in Romania.

2. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or Other?

I use all four. I spend a majority of my day on Twitter or Facebook( Sad, I know). I also use Instagram and it’s a very fun social media site. I also like to chat  with other writers on Wattpad. Obviously I use WordPress.

3. What is your favorite word and why?

There is a few words I enjoy speaking, yet my favorite is epic. I’ve always loved that word. It just rolls off the tongue a certain way. It’s an exciting word full of explosion. Frankly. the term is EPIC!

4. Dogs or Cats?

Dogs although my favorite NFL team happens to be a cat. I’ve always had dogs in my life. They’re a wonderful creature. I can’t see myself not owning pets, especially dogs.

5. Is there any song that holds any special meaning to you?

I can’t really answer this question at the moment. I listen to lots of music. It’s really matter of the moment.

6. What do you feel strongly about?

Peace. There is too much anger in the world. To many people of different backgrounds bickering over the stupidest things. I’d like to just get along with others and be happy. It’s not easy, but a good way to live. If we can rest in peace surely we can live in peace.

7. If you could grant one person in your life one wish, what would it be?

Ugh this is difficult to answer. Everyone would have a different wish. I guess if someone was hungry I could get them a sandwich. Nothing special, but at least they’d be full.

8. What is your favorite film?

Harry Potter and Sorcerer’s Stone. It’s so magical. I still remember going to the mall and seeing the  film for the first time.  I was about six years old. Afterwords me and my family walked down to Books A Million. My mom told me someday I’d read all of her books. She wasn’t kidding.

9. What is your favorite book?

The Book Thief by Marcus Zukas. It’s  historical fiction that took place in NAZI Germany during WW2. Death was the narrator.  It’s a really cool story which takes your breathe away.

10. Did you make any New Year’s Resolutions?

No, not this year. I’m grateful to be alive and dreaming.  How many times does someone’s New Year’s Resolution actually happen?

Well that is it. Thanks for checking this out and thanks again to Nenad. Keep writing soldier!

I challenge Author R.K Gold, booksandstuff431, Kiary of thenerdybiblophile, James of  James J. Cudney IV, abooknerd13, and lastly Ashley of heyitsashley!

A Lesson From Death

forest, hawaii, nature

First the colors then the humans. That is usually how I see things or at least how I try. Here is a small fact, You’re going to die. I wanted to tell the book thief many things about beauty and brutality, but what could I tell her that she didn’t already know? I wanted to explain that I’m constantly overestimating and underestimating the human race, But rarely do I ever simply estimate it. I wanted to ask her how the same thing could be so ugly and so glories and those words and stories so damning and brilliant. None of those words however came out of my mouth. All i was able to do was turn to Liesel and tell her the only truth I only know. I said it to the book thief and say it now to you. A last note by your narrator. I’m haunted by humans-Death.

Is Oprah Winfrey Running for Oval Office?

Modern day Americans love celebrities. In a bizarre way electing celebrities for important political roles seems like our new normal. Donald Trump may take credit for opening the flood gates, yet it didn’t actually start with him. John F Kennedy was behind the genesis of this event. The Kennedy’s were basically American royalty. Even the British monarchy desired their swag.  Some could also argue the phenomena  began with Teddy and Franklin Roosevelt or even George Washington. Barack Obama wasn’t exactly a movie star, yet his success brought him into the spotlight of a Frank Sinatra. Bill Clinton played his saxophone on late night shows. And George W Bush has become a brilliant painter. After the latest Golden Globe’s speech, Oprah Winfrey has become the latest sensation. She may not even run,  but her fanbase are already filling her name into their virtual voters ballot.

Image result for morals

American’s what are we doing? Are we electing officials based off criteria or how many likes their Youtube video received?  Are we electing officials based off their success in business or off a killer tweet? Does rocking the New Year’s Eve party make you presidential? Does boasting about your son’s basketball talent make you intelligent?  It seems as if being blue or red doesn’t matter anymore. As long as the coolest cat is running with our party we’re cool home slice. Does this mean such celebrity won’t make a fine president? No, but it does show the downfall of society. How much farther will our moral’s go?

January TBR 2018

Happy new year WordPress. i think 2018 is going to be a wonderful year of reading, so here is a quick glance at some books I’m hopeful to start reading this month. I don’t normally have a goal on how many books I want to read, but if I could read 50 books or more this year that would be grand.

Hide and Seek by MJ Arlidge.

Image result for hide and seek mj arlidge

I recently came across this book  at Target. Hide and Seek is about a young woman named Helen Grace who was framed for a murder. She’s locked up in a murky prison with people who desire to kill her. She’s also investigating who is behind the recent murder’s within her prison. I read a few chapters today. This thriller seems like something I will enjoy very much and the cover is pretty neat.

Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo Image result for wonder woman warbringer book

I was pretty excited to read this book when it was officially published, yet I never got around to reading it last year. Wonder Woman was by far my favorite film of 2017.  I’ve heard the novel is a  bit similar to the film, so I’m expecting a real page turner here. Plus this novel was created by Leigh Bardugo. I’ve heard nothing, but praise about this author.

Go Set the Watchmen by Harper Lee

Go Set a Watchman: A Novel by [Lee, Harper] Maybe you’ve been living under a rock, but Harper Lee is the woman who created a best seller known as To Kill a Mockingbird. There is also a film based on this book. She published this sequel back in 2015. Around 2016 or early last year I read from TKAM. It has become one of my favorite books, so I’m interested to see what happened in the next book with the characters like Scout being all grown up. I’m guessing it has modern aspects of life featured in the  second story? Only one way to find out.

The Passenger by Lisa  Lutz

The passenger is another little book I found in Target. The Passenger was published in 2016 and has become a pretty popular book. The Passenger is a thriller with lots of twist and turns. I’m so happy to finally have my own copy and can’t wait to check this story out.

The Passenger by [Lutz, Lisa]These are a few of my books I’m hopeful to read to begin the new year. If you’ve read any of these books please let me know what you thought about them, but please no spoilers! Did you enjoy this post? If so, thank you very much.  I’d love to do a TBR on here each month in 2018. Take care and remember to be positive, because positiveness is better than negativity!
