Farewell to 2016

In a few hours 2016 will be behind us. 2016 was a devastating year for many. We lost iconic stars who brought this world so much light. Many of us also lost family members, pets, and friends. Again I must say that life is precious. In addition, many terrible events also  occurred this year.  It annoys me when someone says” bad things happen all the time.” which is true, yet it’s also an excuse. Evil should never be ignored.

I know we usually make New Years resolutions and all of that rubbish. I think it’s  positive  to say we will do better or try to be better people in the new year, yet I think we’re grasping at straws a little bit. Truthfully 2017 will probably be like 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012 etc. Ya get the picture.

Each year we cross new boundaries. We try to overcome every obstacle we face only to fail once again. Our weakness’s bother us whether it’s trying to fit in, get in shape, or whatever else  we try to  accomplish in the new year. I think we forget that we’re only humans. Everything will not go as planned like we think it will. Life is not a film. We cannot create perfection, because perfection does not exist. We will stumble and rise, stumble and rise again and again like hitting the repeat button for our favorite song. There is only twenty four hours to get everything right or close as possible toward perfection.

2017 Should be a exciting year. 2017  Should become the year I publish my first novel. It has been a long process, yet I’m one step closer to completing this killer goal. There will be days when I feel like slamming my head into a wall, asking myself why I wrote this story or whatever else will bother me in the days to come, so I’ll complete my final post for 2016 with a quote from professor Dumbledore “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”

Happy New Years Eve to all and to all a good night…..

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them-Film Review

I finally went and saw Fantastic Beasts yesterday. With great applause I must say  this film was well FANTASTIC! The return to the wizarding world was very exciting. JK Rowling reminds us all again that she’s the queen of fantasy and story telling.

This film took place in 1920’s New York City which is a slight contrast to Harry Potter’s time.  A British wizard named Newt Scamander{ Eddie Redmayne} visits different locations around the globe successfully researching magical creatures for his novel.  Things were going smoothly, until Newt swaps suitcases by accident with an American muggle named  Jacob{Dan Fogler}. Inside of Newt’s suitcase is a land where his fantastic beasts dwell. Soon Jacob opens Newt’s suitcase, releasing the creatures across the Big Apple. If things aren’t bad enough, dark wizard Grindelwald is on the loose, creating chaos and mayhem whenever he goes.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was full of action. This movie caught the audience’s attention quickly. I enjoyed the setting for this film. The music was spot on. The acting was  also outstanding! I felt like Newt Scamander was a little boring at first, yet his character grew as the film ventured forward. I like how there is a muggle( or  No-Maj as they’re called in America) within this group. We finally got to see a human’s perspective on wizards and magic. In addition, I like how there is an anti-magic group which showed us that muggles do indeed notice things. It’s now a fact. ok, Hagrid? I  most definitely do not want to give out too many spoilers, yet I cannot wait to watch this movie again.

While watching this film I kept thinking about how long it  has already been since Deathly Hollows. It’s amazing to think all of this came from one woman’s imagination. We’ve grown up with this phenomenal  world that JK Rowling continues to grow. She’s fantastic to say the least.

Top Ten Tuesday: My Favorite Reads of 2016

2016 Wasn’t my greatest reading year. I challenged myself to read a total of 50 books- brought it down to 40 halfway through the year, yet still  failed to reach my goal. On the other hand, I read a total of 29 books in 2016. C+ at least. These are my ten favorite books that I read from 2016 written in order from my favorite to least, yet still good reads.

  1. The Darkest Minds- Alexandra Bracken

     2. A Monster Calls- Patrick Ness

     3.  Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire- JK Rowling

     4. To Kill A Mockingbird- Harper Lee

      5.  The Glittering Court- Richelle Mead

     6. Passenger- Alexandra Bracken

     7. A Torch Against the Midnight- Sabaa Tahir

     8. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow- Washington Irving

     9. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone- JK Rowling

     10. Waterloo- Bernard Cornwell

Those were my ten favorite reads for 2016. 2016 was a crazy year. Now that I own a Kindle hopefully I can read a few books at a faster rate to reach my goal of 50. It will happen eventually. Please let me know what some of your favorite reads were in 2016.

First off Merry Christmas!

The other day at our local Bible book shop( which is sadly going out of business) I picked up a copy of Lecrae’s novel titled Unashamed. Lecrae is an insanely talented rap artist. His novel was basically a review of his life’s achievements,  biggest fails, and also revealing God’s presence in his life. Lecrae is a true warrior for Christ. He wears his faith like a badge of honor.

I enjoyed this novel very much. It was an inspiring book to read as we celebrate the gift of Christmas. I admire Lecrae’s message. He doesn’t identify himself a Christian artist, because there is no art without God. He mention difficult moments from his childhood like living without a true father figure which lead to his love for hip hop.

Lecrae grew up feeling like an outsider which is exactly how I see the image of Christianity.  God create this world, yet He’s not of this world. There is good and there is evil. We get to choose what we represent. Being a Christian doesn’t make us perfect nor should we think it does. It just means we’re different which is ok. If we want none believers to think we’re not boastful hypocrites we should reflect the  “true” image of God.  Our job is to represent Christ around believers of other faiths, atheist, and fellow Christ followers. I’m saved. yet I’m still broken. We have our ups and downs, yet God is always going to have our backs. That is living with a Biblical worldview.  Lecrae has revolutionized the boundaries between his faith and his craft. He walks the walk within a society that does not want nothing to do with God. A true statement to WWJD? Keep up the good fight brother.

Top Ten Tuesday- Books I Wouldn’t mind Santa Bringing Me

First off who else cannot believe Christmas is only five days away?  I already have hints on what I’m going to get, yet if any of these books magically land underneath our Christmas tree I wouldn’t mind at all.

  1. Any updated cover version of Harry Potter- I only have the original seven book covers. There are many new and prettier designs out there, so I’d like a few of those.

  2. 2. Pride and Prejudice- Jane Austin

I’m looking to read a few feminine novels. Pride and Prejudice is a classic I’m actually eager to read it, yet I have not found a copy. Maybe Misses Claus has few laying in her book case?

     3. Heartless- Marissa Meyer

Heartless is an Alice and Wonderland retelling about the sinister Red Queen. This is a book I definitely want to read.

     4. Alice in Wonderland- Lewis Carroll.

Yes, I’ve never read Alice in Wonderland. I feel so sorry to the book community that I have not read a single sentence from this incredible novel. That will change if someone were to buy me a copy for Christmas. It’s wishful thinking.

   5. Library of Souls- Ransom Rings.

I already bought books one and two of Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children, so I’d like to have the completed series in my bookshelf. I did purchase Miss Peregrine’s Funko Pop figure yesterday from Target. It’s so cool!

6. All the Light We Cannot See- Anthony Dofe

This is one book I’ve been wanting to read, yet never have. It’s very expensive even still today and I think the book was published in 2014? It takes place during WW2,  I must read it and hopefully soon.

7. Go Set A Watchman- Harper Lee

To Kill a Mockingbird brought me joy while reading from it this passed summer. I’d like to see what happens in the sequel. It feels weird to me that Harper Lee waited so long to create a sequel, but whatever floats your boat.

8. The Diabolic- S. J Kincaid

Recently this book hit the shelves. It has been getting many positive reviews from GoodReads and BookTube hosts. The story sounds epic.

9. A Christmas Carol- Charles Dickens

Last night I was watching Patrick Stewart’s 1999 A Christmas Carol. This story has always fascinated me, so I’d love to read the novel on Christmas day with chestnuts roasting on an open fire. Ok that was cheesy.

10. Never Fade- Alexandra Bracken

The Darkest Minds is my favorite novel I read in 2016. I cannot wait to read the 2nd novel. This story blew my mind!

Those are ten novels I’d love to get for Christmas. Maybe Santa will bring them? What ten books are you hoping for? I also hope you have a Merry Christmas!

I’m at a loss for words. Craig Sager the heart and soul of sports commentary has passed away at the age of sixty five. His battle with leukemia is over, leaving us  all heart broken.

He seem like such a light hearted person. He wore such colorful outfits. Truthfully speaking, most of his suites were hideous, yet likewise to Mr. Rogers I was always curious to see what he would be wearing next. Craig Sager was a genuine person. His world wasn’t about white or black. To him all that mattered was his love for the game of basketball. He will be best known for his time as a side line reporter from TBS and TNT. There is so many cherished moments he had with players and coaches especially  with San Antonio Spurs head coach Greg popovich. In 2016 Craig Sager was inducted into the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame.  He also won the Jimmy V Perseverance  Award  at the ESPY’s this passed summer, giving a dynamic speech.

Over the last two years, while battling Leukemia  Sager became even more iconic to the NBA.   Likewise to what Mike Greenberg said the other day on Mike and Mike, Craig Sager was the type of person who just made you smile and laugh. That was his persona.

Now that he’s passed we’re trapped with only his memories to keep us gleeful. As a person born with a rare disorder men and women like Craig Sager gain  all my respect. We fight each day. Some days we fall flat as if life is mocking our weaknesses. Craig Sager kept smiling even in the most difficult of times. He remained strong.  His life is now a symbol of hope and that will never die.

Netflix The Crown: Season One Review

Netflix continues to dazzle. The Crown is a fresh and creative series created by Peter Morgan and produced by Left Bank  Pictures as well as Sony Pictures Television. No offense Duck Dynasty, but  The Crown is about a true, royal, dynasty. The Crown is a beautifully illustrated series about  young Elizabeth’s II rise to becoming Queen of Great Britain  and the drama that  would come along with it. FYI Queen Elizabeth II is the longest standing queen since Queen Victoria.

Soon after their  wedding Elizabeth and Phillip the Duke of Edinburgh{ Matt  Smith} quickly arrive back in London after the sudden death of her father King George VI. Right away, Queen Elizabeth must deal with British politics and  other royal affairs.  Certain high members of parliament urge their young  and modest queen to request  the British Bulldog { John Lithgow} to step down from his role as prime minister. Age was the only enemy Sir Winston Churchill could not overcome.

Overall I really enjoyed this series. I love the way this series was filmed.  It captured the moments  perfectly drawing its viewers back in time.  It’s just crazy to see how different people acted or the clothing they wore not so long ago. Learning interesting nuggets about British history has always fancied me. Claire Foy did a stellar job portraying her royal highness. The rivalry between Queen Elizabeth and her sister Princess Margaret{ Vanessa Kirby} kept me on the edge of my seat. Being from a royal family would be so stressful. To the world a king died. In her shoes it was her father who had died, yet she had to deal with more important matters. Matt Smith was also clever as the royal Duke. I enjoyed his munchyness. He could come across as rude, yet I totally understand where he was coming from. His wife is the queen, so she’s wearing both the pants and the crown in this marriage. Being chopped liver is no fun.

The absolute best acting job of this series goes to John Lithgow. He was absolutely perfect as Winston Churchill the sly, old, dog he was. I’ve always thought of John Lithgow as a comedian, so seeing him in this role was surprising.  John Lithgow deserves major props for this role. Brilliant job, by him, by far. One point to this series I enjoyed the most is how there wasn’t a ton of romantic scenes. Finally a show that you won’t have to turn off the TV or turn down the volume when others are around.

I believe  The Crown was only a mini series. I’m anxious to find out if the success from season one will lead to a season two. The Crown was spectacular. I’m not sure there is a place for royalty in modern times, yet I do see why Europeanors enjoy it so much.  In summary I must end this post with a famous quote: God Save the Queen!

The Pretty Little Liars Book Tag!!

So I was scrolling through my PLL tag list and found this gem of a tag had recently appeared. The creator of this tag is from a YouTube account you may watch here> CREATOR: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfnekqHUx4M and I found this book tag on  alwaysandforeverreading’s page. In case U somehow do not know, because maybe you live under a rock, yet Pretty Little Liars is a hit drama that airs on Freeform. It also happens to be one of my favorite shows, because 1. It’s a pretty good series 2. It’s a series of books and 3. Lucy hale is my queen, so lets get this tag going!

We all know Hanna has the best style: Who is one author who’s writing style you simple can’t get enough of?

I’m simple amazed by Alexandra Bracken’s writing style. I’ve read The Darkest Minds and Passenger which are entirely different stories, yet both get my jaw dropping. Her stories are so captivating. Frankly she has a way with words I cannot get enough of.

PLL Hiatus: A book/series it pains you to wait for?

The series is complete, yet while reading Vampire Academy I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the next novel. It’s such a cool and bewildering story. The vampire series I’m creating is similar, so it has a special place in my heart.

You’ve stumbled into A’s lair but quickly realize you’re not alone: Which fictional character do you send an SOS text?

I would definitely send an SOS text to Samwise Gamgee from Lord of the Rings although he would probably have no clue what an SOS nor text even means. Certainly a time gape struggle, none the less he knows how to save the day.

Rosewood: A fictional place you would like to visit, despite it’s reputation?

Knockturn Alley. Touchy place, yet it would cool to explore. I’ve done so a few times at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

A has invited you to the masquerade ball! What lavish outfit from a book would you wear?

Something from Sherlock Holmes closet would do best. Dr. Watson also has a good sense of style.

Cece Drake: Name a totally epic plot twist

The plot twist from Life is Pi. Was the story factual or mere fiction? Life is PI is a great story for both religious and atheist to mull over.

It’s Halloween! You’re Aria and A has locked you in a crate. What power or weapon would you use from a book to help you break free?

This may sound too corny, but I’d like to have a  wand in hand. Poof! You’re now free!

Wren: Who is a minor character whose story you would love to know more about?

I would like to know more about Boo Radley from To Kill a Mockingbird. He’s an important character, yet there is so much missing about him. How does Boo feel about being stuck in doors constantly? Those questions are still left unsaid.

That does it for this tag. Thank you so much to  AlwaysAndForverReading for sharing this tag. I’m always looking for good, secret, tags to create, so if you have any in mind I may enjoy please let me know 🙂
