The Glittering Court-Richelle Mead

The Glittering Court is a brand new series from the amazing imagination of  Richelle Mead. Mead is mostly known for her Vampire Academy/ Bloodline series[SO GOOD!}. Previously to this novel she released Soundless last fall which did not do as well as expected although I am hopeful to read Soundless someday.  On April 5th, The Glittering Court hit the book stores. I had pre-ordered this novel back in January. It sounded so great to me and my curiosity  was never  let down. The Glittering Court does not have to do with vampires. It’s a completely different world from Richelle Mead’s usual fantasy novels which made me enjoy this story even more.

The Glittering Court follows a protagonist named  Adelaine whom is from a wealthy family from Ostrid. Adelaine is  meant to be arranged to marry a man she does not love. She decides to throw away her perfect lifestyle to find a man she’ll truly love, so this brings Adelaine into the Glittering Court. The Glittering Court is  kind of like a school for underprivileged  girls. They get educated and prepared to meet men who will try to swoon their heart over in the new world of  Adoria. Here Adelaine has to pretend to be a mere house servant  with the others although  she easily excels most of them. Her secret gets revealed to  Cedric who is the son of Jasper the Glittering Court’s  proprietor. Cedric has secrets too, which leads him to helping her remain unnoticed.  Soon enough, love blooms between them, which causes a lot of drama within the process of the Glittering Court.

I’d recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys fantasy, politics and somewhat alternate fiction.  IMO some people could dislike the character of Adelaine, yet I respect her. She took matters into her own hands which was pretty uncommon for a woman in her day. She outgrows her elegant and cocky attitude, becoming more real and true to herself in the end.  Supposedly each book in this series will have a new protagonist, so we will have to wait to see what happen next in Adeliane’s life.
